Packaging Starts With a Blade

Nov 1, 2023

If packaging didn’t matter then why would companies spend millions of dollars each year on changing, rearranging or refreshing their look.

Everyone does it, It’s a part of the marketing plan each year, Another way to become attractive to the consumer. Something that will draw attention to their product more than any other.

Let’s take Oreo for example. Long ago, when I was a child, we had a simple clear plastic packaging with a blue paper sealed end, a little art work and the word OREO across the top. That was all it took for me as a child. I simply needed to see the chocolate cookie with that delicious looking cream filling. Yep it worked. It’s still my favorite to this day. Now today, Oreo is in everything from breakfast cereal, ice cream, low calorie dessert options and every flavor you can dream of for the worlds favorite sandwich cookie.

The packaging has come a long way over the years and as the industry has proven a necessity. Back in the day a simple small plastic bag that would rip when you opened it and necessitated the cookie jar to keep fresh for days to come. Now a bright display of laser print, easy open, resealable design that no longer requires the cookie jar for storage. The quality of this product and the convenience of the packaging certainly keeps its ratings high among consumers.

Bottom line, take a great product and put it in a desirable package and you have a winner. Marketing is key and keeping up with the demands of the market place a must. It is money well spent to develop these new designs; as each year new packaging and product displays make companies billions of dollars. Keep up with the industry and you are sure to please the consumer for years to come, just like one of Americas favorite cookies.

Wondering how the packaging for the OREO happens.
